Why Do Ears Produce So Much Hard Earwax?
Earwax refers to cerumen. Hard cerumen may be related to causes such as cerumen impaction, otitis media, and external otitis. Patients can be treated through daily care and topical medication.
1. Cerumen Impaction: The ceruminous glands in the ear canal can secrete sticky liquid. The scab formed after the secretions dry is called earwax. If not cleaned in time, it can easily cause a large amount of earwax to accumulate into a scab, leading to the obstruction of the external auditory canal, resulting in symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear pain.
2. Otitis Media: Otitis media refers to an inflammatory reaction in the middle ear. Due to inflammatory stimulation, it can cause ear canal drainage, hearing loss, tinnitus, and other symptoms. When ear canal drainage mixes with dust or earwax, it can easily form lumpy and hard substances.
3. External Otitis: External otitis usually refers to acute or chronic inflammatory infections of the skin and subcutaneous tissues of the external auditory canal, with clinical manifestations such as increased secretions, ear itchiness, hearing loss, and other symptoms. Besides the above common causes, it may also be related to acute suppurative otitis media, Eustachian tube inflammation, and other causes. If patients have ear pain symptoms, they should seek treatment in the hospital promptly.
