What Should You Keep in Mind After Receiving an Acupuncture Treatment?
As a traditional treatment plan in traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion can also play a role in health preservation in daily life, and can even effectively alleviate some uncomfortable symptoms in the body. Although everyone knows the efficacy of moxibustion, they are not clear about what issues need to be paid attention to after moxibustion. Generally speaking, do not take a shower immediately after moxibustion, and do not let the body catch a cold.
1. During and after moxibustion, do not immediately use a fan or air conditioning. During moxibustion, pores, meridians, and acupuncture points are open. If air conditioning is used at this time, cold air will enter the body through the pores and meridians, causing harm to the body. You can use air conditioning 2-3 hours after moxibustion, but the temperature needs to be controlled at 27-28℃, and should not be directed at the body. Otherwise, cold air may easily invade the body and cause adverse reactions such as headache, fever, back cold, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
2. Do not touch cold water or take a shower immediately after moxibustion. Within half an hour after moxibustion, do not wash your hands with cold water. If you need to wash your hands, use warm water. You should not shower within 3 hours, and after 3 hours, you can shower with water warmer than body temperature. This is to prevent cold and dampness from invading the body and affecting the effect of moxibustion.
3. Do not eat cold drinks, cold fruits, and vegetables after moxibustion. Many people like to eat cold drinks and fruits to cool down in summer, but avoid these on the day of moxibustion. This includes ice cream, iced drinks, watermelon, cucumbers, peaches, etc.
4. If you sweat during moxibustion, wipe it off and change into dry clothes after moxibustion. During moxibustion, the heat of the moxa enters the body, and the cold and dampness in the body is expelled through sweat. After moxibustion, do not take a shower and do not continue to wear wet clothes. Instead, take off the wet clothes, wipe off the sweat with a dry towel, and change into dry clothes.
5. Do not perform moxibustion on an empty stomach or immediately after eating. Wait at least half an hour after eating before performing moxibustion.
6. Strictly prohibit intravenous infusion after moxibustion. Some people may want to receive both hospital treatment and moxibustion for their illness. However, it is important to note that intravenous infusion should not be performed after moxibustion as the pores, meridians, and acupuncture points are open during moxibustion, allowing the cold air from the infusion to invade the internal organs of the body.
