Reasons for drooping inner canthus are generally related to age growth and loss of collagen in the skin. It can be solved by injecting botulinum toxin or performing surgery under the eyebrow. Drooping inner canthus may also be caused by diseases, such as oculomotor nerve paralysis or ocular myasthenia, which have obvious abnormal manifestations and are not related to skin laxity. Timely medical attention is required. The reasons for drooping inner canthus are as follows:
1. Eyelid skin laxity: Due to aging, the content of collagen in the skin near the inner canthus of the upper eyelid decreases, and the skin elasticity becomes worse. Under the effect of gravity, it droops downward, and severe cases may block the line of sight and cause vision loss.
2. Oculomotor nerve paralysis: The levator palpebrae superioris muscle under the upper eyelid is responsible for lifting the eyelid. It is innervated by the oculomotor nerve. If the oculomotor nerve is paralyzed due to viral infection or demyelination, it will lead to the inability of the upper eyelid to lift normally, especially the drooping of the inner canthus will be more obvious.
3. Ocular myasthenia: It is related to autoimmune inflammatory reactions. Lesions occur in the neuromuscular junction structure of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, resulting in incomplete exertion of contractile force and causing drooping of the inner canthus.
Solutions for drooping inner canthus:
1. Injection of botulinum toxin: For early mild drooping of the upper eyelid and mild eyebrow drooping, accompanied by slight crow's feet, botulinum toxin injection can be used to effectively alleviate the condition. The maintenance time is about 6 months.
2. Surgical correction under the eyebrow: If the skin laxity is severe and the eyebrow drooping is obvious, an incision can be made under the eyebrow to remove part of the skin, lift the eyebrow, correct the drooping of the inner canthus, improve the shape of the double eyelid, and reduce wrinkles. The incision scar can be covered with tattoos.
3. Surgical correction through double eyelid incision: If the eyebrow drooping is not obvious or if you have a single eyelid, a double eyelid incision can be used to remove part of the skin, lift the inner canthus, and reduce wrinkles.
