Can someone in their twenties develop a gastric ulcer?
Causes and Treatments of Gastric Ulcer
Gastric ulcer may occur around age 20. There are many causes of gastric ulcer, such as Helicobacter pylori infection and drug factors.
Causes
1. Helicobacter pylori infection: If a patient has Helicobacter pylori infection, it can easily lead to damage to the gastric mucosa and excessive gastric acid secretion, thereby inducing gastric ulcer.
2. Drug factors: Some drugs can stimulate the gastric mucosa, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including aspirin enteric-coated tablets, acetaminophen tablets, etc. In addition, glucocorticoid drugs like dexamethasone tablets and prednisolone acetate tablets can also cause harm to the stomach. Long-term use of these drugs increases the risk of developing gastric ulcer.
Treatments
Once diagnosed with gastric ulcer, timely treatment is necessary to prevent the condition from worsening and affecting one's health. If the ulcer is caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, quadruple therapy can be used under a doctor's supervision. This involves taking two antibiotics, a bismuth compound, and an acid suppressant. Common antibiotics include amoxicillin capsules and clarithromycin capsules. Bismuth compounds often chosen are potassium bismuth citrate particles, while acid suppressants can be omeprazole enteric-coated capsules. Additionally, drugs that protect the gastric mucosa, such as aluminum hydroxide magnesium carbonate chewable tablets or sucralfate suspension gel, can also be prescribed by a doctor.
It is recommended to maintain healthy eating and lifestyle habits, with a focus on balanced meals. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables while reducing spicy and irritating foods. Maintain a positive mental state and avoid excessive stress or anxiety. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention promptly to avoid complications.
