What Should I Do If My Urethra Is Swollen?
Swelling of the urethral orifice requires treatment and management based on specific conditions. If there is only swelling of the urethral orifice without other symptoms of discomfort, generally, erythromycin ointment can be used under the guidance of a doctor, and observation is required. If the swelling of the urethral orifice is accompanied by urethral irritation, anti-infective treatment is generally required, along with topical medication. If the swelling is caused by trauma, prompt medical attention is necessary for assessment and further treatment.
1. If there is only swelling of the urethral orifice without symptoms of urination irritation, erythromycin ointment can be applied topically, and the resolution of the swelling should be observed.
2. If the swelling is secondary to urethral infection, anti-infective treatment is required, and antibiotics can be applied topically.
3. If there are also symptoms of urination discomfort, such as frequent urination, urgent urination, and delayed urination, oral administration of sodium bicarbonate tablets and ciprofloxacin tablets is recommended. The resolution of the swelling should be observed.
4. After urethral irritation procedures, such as catheterization or cystoscopy, urethral edema may occur temporarily. In such cases, drinking plenty of water and frequent urination are usually recommended, and observation is required. However, if the edema persists for more than 3 days, medical attention is needed to rule out any secondary infection.
5. Acute allergies or trauma can also cause edema of the urethral orifice. In such cases, it is recommended to seek medical attention for further assessment and treatment.
