Why Do My Legs Feel Uncomfortable at Night?
When we finish our work for the day and go to sleep at night, everyone hopes to have a high-quality sleep that can relieve the fatigue of the day. However, some people may find that they feel discomfort in their legs during sleep at night. When this occurs, it can be caused by various reasons, such as excessive strain on the legs during the day, varicose veins in the lower limbs, blood clots in the lower limbs, or a lack of essential trace elements like calcium and potassium in the body.
1. Discomfort in Both Legs: During nighttime sleep or quiet rest, discomfort may begin to manifest in both legs, such as feeling cold, soreness and swelling, numbness, stabbing pain, burning sensation, or a crawling sensation. Some people may feel that they "don't know where to put their legs, and it feels uncomfortable no matter how they position them."
2. Need to Move the Legs: When discomfort occurs in the legs, symptoms can only be relieved by continuously moving the lower limbs or getting up and walking around, massaging or tapping the lower limbs. However, once lying down in bed, the above symptoms may recur or worsen.
3. Difficulty Falling Asleep: It can lead to difficulty falling asleep at night or waking up during sleep. Some patients may experience involuntary leg tremors (periodic limb movement disorder) while asleep.
1. Soak Feet in Hot Water Before Bed: Soak your feet in hot water before bed and rub the soles of your feet with your hands until they become warm and red.
2. Strengthen Leg Exercise: Increase leg exercise during the day, such as walking, jogging, and kicking, but exercise should be moderate as excessive physical exertion during the day may exacerbate symptoms of restless leg syndrome.
3. Reduce Caffeine Intake: Reduce the intake of coffee or caffeinated drinks, quit smoking, and reduce alcohol consumption.
4. Massage the Legs: Massage both legs or perform leg stretches before going to bed.
5. Calcium Supplementation: Take appropriate calcium supplements, expose yourself to sunlight, pay attention to local warmth, and also be mindful of changes in body position, such as sitting and sleeping postures, to avoid compression of nerves and blood vessels.
6. Take Tonics: Consume a small amount of tonics that nourish the kidneys and marrow. According to traditional Chinese medicine, foods like walnuts, dogwood fruit, raw rehmannia root, and black sesame seeds have the effect of nourishing the kidneys and marrow. Consuming them in moderation can strengthen bones and joints and delay the degeneration of the kidneys and joints.
Gudaifu Paste is made from traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as donkey-hide gelatin, ginseng, yellow mustard seed, peach kernel, papaya, kudzu root, goji berry, cinnamon bark, tuckahoe, and Chinese yam. It has the effects of reducing swelling and pain, promoting blood circulation, and removing blood stasis.
