What Are the Benefits and Effects of Seabuckthorn Berries?
Seabuckthorn berry possesses various functions and effects, including soil and water conservation, medicinal, anticancer, and edible properties. Seabuckthorn berry boasts high nutritional, economic, and ecological values, and is more commonly found in northern, northwestern, and southwestern China. It contains flavonoid compounds, triterpenes, organic acids, volatile oils, proteins, and other nutrients, making it highly functional.
1. Soil and Water Conservation
Seabuckthorn is drought-resistant, strong in growth, adaptive, and capable of resisting wind and sand. Therefore, it is planted in gobi deserts to effectively conserve soil and water and green the gobi. Seabuckthorn is also planted in barren areas to improve soil and water conservation. It is often chosen for urban greening projects.
2. Medicinal Effects
A small amount of total flavonoids can be extracted from seabuckthorn, which can strengthen heart function and significantly prevent cardiovascular diseases.
3. Anticancer Properties
The anticancer effect of seabuckthorn is mainly displayed in its ability to inhibit the growth and structure of cancer cells. Its juice can block the decomposition of carcinogenic substances in the body.
4. Juice Preparation
After selecting seabuckthorn berries, wash them thoroughly. The first juice extraction will yield a thicker juice, while the second and subsequent extractions will produce a more delicious and palatable juice. Note that large-scale juice extraction requires sterilization.
5. Vinegar Production
Select 15 kilograms of seabuckthorn berries for continuous production. Pour them into a vat, stir after adding daqu, and wait for the first fermentation. After the first fermentation, add bran and break it down, stir it again in the vat, and continue with the second fermentation. Avoid low temperatures during the process, as it is commonly used for vinegar treatment. The final product is brownish-yellow, fragrant, and slightly astringent.
