What Areas Should Be Smoked with Moxibustion for Cough?
Generally, moxibustion can be applied to certain acupuncture points such as Dazhui (GV14), Gaohuang (BL43), and Danzhong (CV17) to alleviate cough.
1. Dazhui (GV14): Dazhui is typically located at the lower end of the neck, in the depression below the highest point of the patient's neck. When locating this point, it is recommended to slightly tilt the neck forward and look for the protrusion and the depression below the seventh cervical vertebra at the junction of the neck and back. Moxibustion at this point can help reduce cough to a certain extent.
2. Gaohuang (BL43): Gaohuang is located on the back of the patient, approximately four finger-widths away from the fourth thoracic vertebra. There is one Gaohuang point on each side, between the fourth and fifth intercostal spaces. Moxibustion at these points can generally be used to treat cough and expectoration.
3. Danzhong (CV17): Danzhong is located on the midline of the chest, at the intersection of the line connecting the two nipples and the sternal midline. If a patient experiences cough discomfort, moxibustion at this point can be considered as an option.
In general, moxibustion can assist in treating cough discomfort. If a patient experiences cough discomfort, it is important to identify the underlying cause. It is recommended to consult a respiratory physician and receive treatment under their guidance.
