What Are the Effects of Budesonide Nasal Spray?
Due to factors such as the immune system or genetics, many people suffer from rhinitis. Chronic rhinitis is a difficult disease to cure. In some autumn seasons or in harsh environments, patients may experience symptoms such as sneezing and running noses. There are many drugs on the market that can relieve nasal discomfort, and budesonide nasal spray is one of them. Do you know the main function of budesonide nasal spray?
Budesonide nasal spray has a wide range of applications and can be used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, prevention of nasal polyp regeneration after nasal polypectomy, and symptomatic treatment of nasal polyps.
Glucocorticoids are the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of respiratory diseases. They have a wide range of pharmacological effects, and their anti-inflammatory mechanism may include inhibiting the metabolism of arachidonic acid, blocking the chemotaxis and activation of inflammatory cells, stabilizing the lysosomal membrane of white blood cells, inhibiting the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, reducing exudation, and enhancing adenylic acid cyclase. Glucocorticoids are currently the most potent bronchodilators.
Dosage of budesonide nasal spray should be individualized based on the patient's condition. For adults and children over 6 years of age, the recommended starting dosage is 256 micrograms per day, which can be sprayed once in the morning or divided into two doses for morning and evening use. That is, 128 micrograms (2*64 micrograms) should be sprayed into each nostril in the morning; or 64 micrograms should be sprayed into each nostril twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. No increase in effect has been observed with dosages exceeding 256 micrograms per day. After achieving the desired clinical effect, the dosage should be reduced to the minimum amount required to control symptoms. Clinical trials have shown that some patients may find it sufficient to maintain a dosage of 32 micrograms sprayed into each nostril every morning. Some patients may experience relief of symptoms within 5-7 hours after starting treatment.
Notes for Daily Use:
- If symptoms do not improve after using budesonide nasal spray for 14 days, consult a doctor.
- Self-medication should not exceed 3 months. If treatment is needed for longer than 3 months, it should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
- Long-term use of high doses may lead to systemic effects of glucocorticoids. Long-term treatment with budesonide nasal spray in children and adolescents may cause delayed growth and development, and should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
Patients with rhinitis should pay attention to a reasonable diet and lifestyle, avoid smoking and alcohol, keep the nasal cavity clean, and maintain a good indoor environment. They should also know how to protect their noses, such as maintaining a certain humidity in the living space to prevent the nasal mucosa from drying and causing cracks and bleeding.
