In our lives, many women experience calf soreness and swelling at night. This may be related to excessive fatigue during the day, as it can easily lead to muscle damage in the legs, causing soreness and pain during sleep. The occurrence of this symptom in women may be associated with the following five reasons:
1. Thrombophlebitis: Women with thrombophlebitis tend to experience calf soreness and swelling at night, mainly because thrombophlebitis can easily damage the blood vessel walls in the legs, leading to stagnation of blood in the veins, resulting in soreness, swelling, and pain in the legs.
2. Legs Exposed to Cold: If women do not cover their legs properly while sleeping at night, it may lead to cold exposure, causing symptoms such as localized muscle spasms, including leg pain, soreness, numbness, and limited mobility.
3. Varicose Veins in the Calves: Varicose veins in the calves can easily lead to blood stagnation, leg pain, soreness, discomfort, and other abnormal symptoms. Some severe cases may also be accompanied by localized skin swelling, pain, rupture, and bleeding.
4. Restless Legs Syndrome: Women experiencing calf soreness and swelling at night should also consider restless legs syndrome, as the typical symptoms after onset include discomfort in the lower limbs, manifested as swelling, pain, ache, burning sensations, ants crawling sensations, and creeping sensations in the lower limbs.
5. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: Some women may experience calf soreness and swelling at night due to lumbar spinal stenosis, as it can easily compress the nerves in the lower limbs, leading to symptoms of calf soreness and swelling.
When women experience calf soreness and swelling while sleeping at night, it may be caused by cold exposure in the legs or diseases affecting the lower limbs. Regardless of the cause confirmed through relevant medical examinations, scientific treatment is necessary to alleviate discomfort in the legs and restore a healthy life. Patients should also be reminded to engage in scientific prevention based on the aforementioned causes after the symptoms have subsided, to avoid recurrence of the disease and harm to their health.
