What Are the Signs of Approaching Menstruation?
Menstruation can leave a woman feeling weakened, and it is essential for women to prepare accordingly before its arrival in order to better embrace it and avoid embarrassing situations. For most women, there are a series of physical signs that precede menstruation, serving as important indicators of its approaching. Here are several common premenstrual symptoms:
1. Edema and Soreness
A week before menstruation, many women may experience edema. If edema is already present, it may worsen during this period. Edema can lead to an increase in bodily fluids, often accompanied by headaches, heavy legs, nasal discharge, abdominal bloating, and constipation. Additionally, small nodules may form in the breasts, causing pain when touched. This pain usually disappears after menstruation but may recur before the next menstrual cycle.
2. Changes in Vaginal Discharge
Before menstruation, women may notice significant changes in their vaginal discharge. Typically, there is an increase in the amount of discharge, which is often milky white or colorless and viscous. This is due to increased blood flow in the pelvic area, cervix, and vagina before menstruation. After menstruation, the blood flow returns to normal, and the amount of discharge decreases accordingly.
3. Premenstrual Tension
Premenstrual tension is more common in unmarried women but usually does not interfere with work or study. However, a few women may experience severe symptoms that require medication such as analgesics or sedatives.
4. Diminished Attention
Many women may experience forgetfulness and diminished attention in the days before menstruation, which can significantly impact their daily lives. Some may also experience headaches, sometimes severe enough to require bed rest for relief. These symptoms can occur 10-14 days before menstruation and most commonly manifest 4-5 days before.
5. Emotional Sensitivity
Women may also experience emotional sensitivity, irritability, and anxiety before menstruation. These symptoms often appear suddenly and are difficult to control. Additionally, they may lead to insomnia, headaches, and general fatigue.
6. Pink Discharge
Before menstruation, women may notice pink discharge, which gradually turns into blood, signaling the start of menstruation.
