How many stages are there in IgA nephritis?
IgA Nephritis Classification and Precautions
IgA nephritis is classified into five stages, with Stage 1 being the mildest and Stage 5 being the most severe. IgA nephritis is a chronic kidney disease characterized primarily by IgA or IgA deposits in the kidneys, most commonly affecting adolescents and middle-aged individuals.
Stage 1
Patients exhibit no significant symptoms, only manifesting as hematuria and proteinuria. Typically, edema and hypertension do not occur at this stage. Renal function remains normal, indicating a mild condition.
Stage 2
Patients may experience edema and hypertension, but renal function remains normal.
Stage 3
Patients display pronounced edema and hypertension, accompanied by varying degrees of renal impairment, such as elevated creatinine and urea nitrogen levels.
Stage 4
Patients suffer from severe edema and hypertension, along with evident renal impairment, marked by increased creatinine and urea nitrogen levels.
Stage 5
Patients exhibit severe edema, hypertension, and severe renal impairment, including elevated creatinine and urea nitrogen levels. This stage signifies a critical condition requiring prompt medical attention.
Precautions for Patients
It is recommended that patients prioritize rest, avoiding excessive fatigue and staying up late. A low-salt, low-fat diet should be adopted, emphasizing fresh fruits and vegetables while minimizing spicy, oily, and stimulating foods. In case of discomfort, patients should promptly consult a physician and undergo standardized treatment under medical guidance.
