Where Should Fire Cupping Be Done?
Cupping is a common way of health preservation and detoxification, which can be performed on certain parts of the body such as Zusanli, Yongquan, Shenque, and others.
1. Zusanli: Cupping on Zusanli can regulate cardiovascular function and increase intestinal motility, providing significant assistance for the digestive system. Therefore, when there are digestive issues or when the stomach meridian is not smooth, cupping on Zusanli can be used to improve or maintain health.
2. Yongquan: Yongquan is located at the center of the palm of the foot, which is the area where humidity in the body is most easily accumulated and difficult to eliminate. Long-term accumulation can lead to menstrual blockages and subsequent serious illnesses. Cupping on this area can help expel moisture and toxins from the body, thereby improving vitality.
3. Shenque: Shenque is commonly known as the navel. Do not underestimate the small navel. Regular cupping on the navel can regulate qi and harmonize the stomach, regulate menstruation, and activate blood circulation.
1. Head and Face: Generally, it is not recommended to perform cupping on the head and face as it may leave scars and affect appearance. Skin in these areas is thin and not suitable for cupping, and the presence of hair also makes it unsuitable for cupping. The top of the head is such an area.
2. Wrinkles and Loose Skin: If the skin has wrinkles, sagging, or uneven scars, the cups may easily fall off and fail to achieve the desired effect. Therefore, cupping is not suitable for areas with wrinkles or loose skin.
3. Vital Organ Surfaces: When performing cupping, it is important to avoid areas corresponding to vital organs of the body. In these areas, heat can directly reach the internal organs and potentially affect their physiological functions, such as the chest and eyes.
4. Extremities: The extremities have a dense distribution of nerves, and cupping may cause significant pain and potentially affect the normal function of internal organs. Therefore, certain acupuncture points such as Yinbai are not suitable for cupping.
5. Lumbar and Sacral Area of Pregnant Women: Pregnant women should be particularly cautious when undergoing cupping. During pregnancy, the lower abdomen and lumbar and sacral areas are prohibited for moxibustion as it may have adverse effects on the fetus. Pregnant women are generally advised not to undergo cupping, as it may cause miscarriage, especially in the abdominal and groin areas.
6. Other Forbidden Areas: Natural areas such as the nipples, genitals, and testicles of both men and women are not suitable for cupping. Additionally, areas with thin skin, little muscle, large blood vessels, and muscle bundles (such as the armpits, carotid arteries, and Weizhong acupuncture points) are also not suitable for direct cupping.
