Why Do Our Bodies Sweat?
Sweating is a common occurrence. In summer, when the temperature is high, it is easy to sweat, whether sitting still, eating, or walking. However, this kind of sweating is normal. Some people in life sweat excessively even in cold environments, while eating, or sitting. Usually, this kind of sweating is an abnormal phenomenon that requires our attention. It is necessary to promptly identify the cause of the sweating and then treat it accordingly.
1. Weak Lung Defense: Due to post-illness weakness, the lung qi is depleted, resulting in insufficient lung qi and a weak exterior defense. This leads to the opening of pores and spontaneous sweating.
2. Disharmony of Ying and Wei: This often occurs in individuals with a weak exterior defense. When externally exposed to wind pathogens, it disrupts the harmony of Ying and Wei, leading to dysfunction of the exterior defense and sweating.
3. Insufficient Heart Blood: Excessive worrying can injure both the heart and spleen, leading to blood deficiency and failure to nourish the heart. This can result in the leakage of sweat.
4. Yin Deficiency and Excessive Yang: Excessive fatigue or consumption of yin by pathogenic heat can lead to a depletion of yin fluids. When yin fluids cannot be retained, they leak out, manifesting as spontaneous sweating or nocturnal sweating.
5. Internal Heat and Dampness: Emotional stress, liver qi stagnation, excessive liver fire, a preference for spicy and greasy foods, or a constitution predisposed to damp-heat can lead to the accumulation of internal heat and dampness. This heat and dampness force the leakage of fluids, resulting in sweating.
1. Timely Consultation: After identifying the type of sweating, if it is physiological sweating, there is no need to worry. Reasonable supplementation of electrolyte fluids can replenish the fluids lost due to sweating. However, if it is pathological sweating, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
2. Lifestyle Adjustment: If excessive sweating is caused by post-illness weakness, it is important to focus on improving overall health. This can be achieved through dietary modifications to strengthen the body. For example, if excessive sweating is due to insufficient lung qi, a formula such as Guizhi Plus Huangqi Tang can be used for regulation.
