Can a Nasopharyngeal CT Scan Show the Throat?
1. Nasopharyngeal CT generally cannot show the larynx. To examine the larynx, laryngoscopy or laryngeal CT is needed, which can observe the specific conditions of the larynx.
2. Nasopharyngeal CT is a good measure for detecting space-occupying lesions in the nasopharynx. It can observe whether there are diseases such as pharyngeal bursitis, adenoidal hypertrophy, and nasopharyngeal cancer in the nasopharynx. During the examination, the specific conditions of the nasal cavity, nasal sinuses, and nasopharyngeal areas are observed, but the oropharynx and throat cannot be seen. Therefore, nasopharyngeal CT cannot show the larynx. If there are abnormal manifestations in the larynx, indirect laryngoscopy or fiberoptic nasopharyngoscopy should be considered to check whether there are problems in the pharynx, larynx, and vocal cords. If necessary, laryngeal CT can also be considered to observe whether there is lymph node metastasis in the neck.
3. When symptoms appear in the nasopharynx or larynx, one should choose the corresponding examination method based on their own symptoms to obtain an accurate diagnosis. Once diagnosed, treatment should be actively carried out. At the same time, attention should be paid to oral hygiene, avoiding smoking or drinking, and not consuming irritating foods.
