What are the Main Functions and Therapeutic Uses of the Big-tailed Sway?
Dawei Yao primarily functions as a diuretic agent, effective in promoting urination and reducing swelling. Therefore, it is often used in the treatment of diseases related to stones, such as urinary stones and bladder stones. Additionally, it has detoxifying properties and can help alleviate swelling and pain. When using this medication, it is important to be aware of relevant precautions to avoid improper usage that may affect health.
The aqueous extract of the roots of Dawei Yao, when administered intravenously to anesthetized cats, can lower blood pressure and stimulate respiration. It has an inhibitory effect on isolated toad hearts. However, the ethanolic extract has no such effects. The aqueous extract has no significant effect on isolated guinea pig ileum but can increase the tension of isolated rabbit duodenum. The ethanolic extract inhibits both. Neither extract has an effect on the rectus abdominis muscle of toads, but both have significant stimulatory effects on isolated rat uteruses. Both the aqueous and ethanolic extracts exhibit oxytocin-like effects. Extracts from the leaves have antitumor effects (prolonging lifespan) in mice with Schwartz leukemia (ascites type).
