Acupoint Yinlian

Acupoints are the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory. Whether it is acupuncture or massage, it is necessary to have a clear understanding of the function of each acupoint. Stimulating Yinlian acupoint mainly has the effect of soothing the liver and regulating menstruation, as well as relieving pain through meridians. It can be used to treat menstrual disorders, lower abdominal pain, and cramping pain in the lower limbs.

I. Accurate Location of Yinlian Acupoint

It is located on the inner side of the thigh, 2 cun below the Qichong point, at the root of the thigh, below the pubic tubercle, and on the outer edge of the long adductor muscle. To find it easily, locate the Qichong acupoint on the inner side of the thigh, and then go down 3 horizontal fingers.

II. Anatomy of Yinlian Acupoint

At the upper end of the origin of the long adductor muscle, its lower part is the short adductor muscle; there are branches of the medial circumflex femoral artery and vein; the medial cutaneous branch of the femoral nerve is distributed, and the deep layer is the superficial and deep branches of the obturator nerve.

III. Functions and Effects of Yinlian Acupoint

Functions: Soothing the liver and regulating menstruation, relieving pain through meridians. Effects: Yinlian acupoint belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and is located on the inner side of the thigh, where the qi of the liver meridian originates. The liver meridian is mainly responsible for storing blood, and it circulates through the lower abdomen and around the genitalia, connecting with the Ren meridian. Therefore, this acupoint can regulate liver qi, regulate blood and menstruation, clear lower jiao damp-heat, and is used to treat menstrual disorders caused by liver qi stagnation, impaired excretion, and failure of blood storage, as well as red and white vaginal discharge and vaginal itching caused by damp-heat descending.

This acupoint also has the effect of relieving pain through meridians, and can be used to treat pain in the lower abdomen, inner thigh, and cramping pain in the lower limbs caused by obstruction of liver meridians and disharmony of qi and blood.

IV. Main Diseases Treated by Yinlian Acupoint

1. Menstrual disorders, red and white vaginal discharge, vaginal itching. 2. Lower abdominal pain, inner thigh pain, cramping pain in the lower limbs.

V. Combination of Yinlian Acupoint for Treatment

Menstrual disorders can be treated by combining with Qihai, Xuehai, and Sanyinjiao acupoints; red and white vaginal discharge can be treated by combining with Ququan, Yinlingquan, and Daimai acupoints; vaginal itching can be treated by combining with Zhongji, Huiyang, and Ligou acupoints; lower abdominal pain can be treated by combining with Wushu and Guilai acupoints; inner thigh pain can be treated by combining with Ququan and Jimen acupoints; cramping pain in the lower limbs can be treated by combining with Huantiao, Yanglingquan, and Ququan acupoints.
