Left kidney hydronephrosis may be caused by congenital factors, urinary tract obstruction, ureteral calculi, etc. It is recommended that patients seek medical attention promptly and undergo targeted treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
I. Physiological Causes
Infants and young children under 1 year old: Due to immature bladder function and weak micturition reflex, infants and young children are prone to temporary left kidney hydronephrosis;
Children aged 2: It may be due to poor eating habits and less water intake, leading to reduced urine production in the kidneys, thus causing left kidney hydronephrosis.
II. Pathological Causes
1. Urinary tract obstruction: When there is obstruction in the left urinary system, such as prostatic hyperplasia or tumor compression, it will lead to obstruction in urine excretion, further causing left kidney hydronephrosis;
2. Ureteral calculi: If there are calculi in the left ureter, they will obstruct the normal passage of urine, which will also induce left kidney hydronephrosis.
In addition to the above situations, diseases such as pyelonephritis, renal tuberculosis, and renal cancer may also lead to this phenomenon. Among them, pyelonephritis is an inflammatory disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms, which can manifest as fever, chills, and other symptoms. Renal tuberculosis is caused by the invasion of the kidney by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, often accompanied by symptoms such as low fever, night sweats, and fatigue. Furthermore, renal cancer is a malignant tumor, usually related to factors such as genetics and smoking. The main symptoms are painless gross hematuria, accompanied by symptoms such as low back pain and abdominal masses.
For left kidney hydronephrosis caused by different causes, the treatment methods also vary. If it is physiological left kidney hydronephrosis, generally, no special treatment is required, and regular follow-up checks can be conducted. For pathological left kidney hydronephrosis, it is necessary to conduct targeted treatment based on the specific cause. In some cases, surgery may also be required to improve the condition.
