Methods to Relieve Tinnitus

Tinnitus can be alleviated through diverse approaches, including Ming Tian Gu Gong Fa (a traditional Chinese exercise), sound masking, and utilizing ear plugs made with dried alum and Coptis chinensis. The underlying causes of tinnitus are numerous, with common ones being vascular disorders, hearing impairment, middle ear obstruction, and kidney deficiency. While short-term tinnitus may not significantly impact one's life, frequent or persistent occurrences necessitate a medical consultation for a thorough examination and proactive treatment of the underlying condition.

1. Ming Tian Gu Gong Fa

Position the palms of your hands firmly over your ears, ensuring that your thumbs rest behind your head. Employ the index, middle, and ring fingers of both hands to gently tap the back of your head, or alternatively, press the index fingers onto the middle fingers and slide them downwards to tap the area. Repeat this sequence 24 times, three times daily, for swift relief from tinnitus.

2. Sound Masking

Turn on a radio and tune it to a frequency that generates a noticeable noise. Adjust the volume slightly above the level of your tinnitus. Listen for 10-15 minutes each session, repeating 5-8 times daily. Over several days, this approach can alleviate the discomfort caused by tinnitus.

3. Ear Plugging with Dried Alum and Coptis chinensis

Prepare a mixture by combining 3 grams of dried alum, 3 grams of Coptis chinensis, and 25 grams of sesame oil. Grind the first two ingredients into a fine powder and mix them with the sesame oil to form a paste. Place this paste on a cotton ball and insert it into your ear before bedtime, replacing it the following day. This method is particularly suitable for individuals with deafness accompanied by secretions.

4. Ear Plugging with Mustard Seed Powder

Grind 30 grams of mustard seeds into a fine powder and distribute it evenly among separate cotton balls. Before going to sleep each night, insert a cotton ball filled with mustard seed powder into each ear, replacing them the next day. This technique promotes ear canal clearance and revitalizes the senses, making it ideal for sudden tinnitus caused by excess conditions. Ensure that the cotton balls are of appropriate size and avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent inner ear damage. This method is not recommended for children.
