Are Yuxingcao and Zheergen the Same Thing?

Update Date: Source: Network
Houttuynia cordata and Polygala japonica are not the same thing.

Although both are herbs, they come from different plants and have different effects and uses. Houttuynia cordata, also known as Yimucao (Motherwort), refers to a plant used as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. It is mainly used for regulating menstruation, relieving menstrual cramps, and other gynecological issues. Sometimes, it is also used to treat coughs caused by colds. Houttuynia cordata can be formulated as traditional Chinese medicine preparations, such as granules and pills, but it is not commonly found in Western medicine forms.

Polygala japonica, also known as Baiqian (zhe'er'gen), is another plant commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine for clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting diuresis, and reducing swelling. It is sometimes used to treat symptoms such as pneumonia and bronchitis. The main dosage forms include granules and pills, and it is not used in Western medicine forms. Although both herbs have certain medicinal values, they should be selected according to specific conditions and medical advice. They should not be randomly substituted or confused.

Because their pharmacological effects, indications, and usage methods are different, misuse may affect efficacy or cause adverse consequences.
