"Should I Apply Nasal Drops for Rhinitis Every Day?"
Instructions for Daily Use of Nasal Drops
Whether nasal drops should be administered daily depends on specific conditions. Nasal drops typically refer to nasal sprays, and commonly used ones include physiological sea water, ephedrine, glucocorticoids, and antihistamines. It is recommended to use them according to one's condition under medical supervision and avoid increasing the dosage without authorization to prevent adverse reactions.
1. Physiological Sea Water
Physiological sea water is derived from high altitudes ranging from approximately 3000 meters to 2500 meters above sea level or through the positive pressure of low-pressure batteries. It can be used 2-3 times daily as prescribed, with about 4-5 drops each time. In cases of acute rhinitis or allergic rhinitis, it can be used once every 5-6 hours as prescribed. For chronic rhinitis, it can be used once every 7-8 hours as prescribed.
2. Ephedrine
The main component of ephedrine is ephedrine itself, which acts directly on vascular smooth muscle, relaxing bronchial smooth muscle within the nasal mucosa. It relieves nasal congestion caused by rhinitis by inhibiting smooth muscle contraction, typically requiring 1-2 drops each time.
3. Glucocorticoids
Examples include Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray and Budesonide Nasal Spray. Glucocorticoids inhibit inflammatory and immune responses, alleviating nasal congestion, runny nose, and other symptoms associated with rhinitis. Patients can use these medications for nasal spray daily as prescribed.
4. Antihistamines
Such as Levocabastine Hydrochloride Nasal Spray, which counteracts histamine-induced increases in capillary permeability and smooth muscle contraction, reducing symptoms like nasal itching, sneezing, and runny nose caused by allergic rhinitis. Patients can typically use this 1-2 times daily as prescribed.
For patients with acute rhinitis or allergic rhinitis, it is advised to consult the Ear, Nose, and Throat department for blood tests, nasal endoscopy, and other examinations to clarify the specific condition. Patients should prioritize adequate rest and ensure sufficient sleep to strengthen their immune systems.
