Preparing for the Arrival of a Newborn: A Checklist for Moms-to-Be

As the pregnancy reaches its later stages, it's time to start preparing the hospital bag. This ensures convenience during and after childbirth. Many women, especially first-time mothers, may lack experience in this matter and be unsure of what to include in their hospital bag. Essentially, the bag should primarily contain items for both the baby and the mother. Let's take a closer look at what should be included in the hospital bag for a smooth delivery.

I. Items for the Mother

Clothing:

  1. Breastfeeding bras and hats. Front-clasp breastfeeding bras are convenient for nursing, and 2-3 bras should be sufficient. A hat is needed for discharge from the hospital.
  2. Breast pump. Electric pumps are preferred over manual ones for ease of use.
  3. Abdominal binder. Helps with postpartum recovery and prevents uterine sagging.
  4. Soft-soled shoes for the mother. Easy to wear after childbirth for walking.

Bathroom Items:

  1. Basins. Prepare 2, one for bathing and the other for washing the face.
  2. Towels. Include 2 towels and several small handkerchiefs for hot compresses on the breasts and wiping sweat.
  3. Toothbrush and toothpaste. Choose a toothbrush with soft bristles.

Hygiene Products:

Sanitary pads and toilet paper.

Food and Dining Items:

Chocolate and other snacks, bent straws, insulated mug; heatable lunch box, chopsticks, and spoon.

II. Items for the Baby

  1. Baby bottles. Prepare 2 bottles, one for milk and one for water.
  2. Bottle brush. Useful for cleaning the bottles, typically one large and one small.
  3. Newborn clothing. 3-4 sets of clothes, such as robe-style or jumpsuits, for easy dressing and undressing.
  4. Diapers and diaper mats. Prepare 1-2 packs of diapers and 2-3 diaper mats that are breathable and absorbent.
  5. Small towels and bibs. Prepare several for wiping the baby's face, bottom, mouth, and sweat.
  6. Baby bathtub and bath towel. One bathtub for bathing the baby and 2-3 bath towels, which can also be used as blankets.
  7. Baby hat and swaddle blanket. Used when the baby is discharged from the hospital or goes out.
  8. Formula milk. Prepare 1 can for feeding the baby before the mother starts breastfeeding.

With this checklist, expectant mothers can ensure that they have everything they need for a smooth delivery and postpartum recovery.
