What are the Benefits of Terazosin Tablets?
With the increasing diversity of people's daily diet, many individuals may accumulate excessive fat in their bodies, especially after consuming large amounts of fatty foods. This can lead to an increase in blood fat levels, which may in turn result in elevated blood pressure. Patients with hypertension can manage their condition by taking antihypertensive medications. Terazosin tablets are a second-generation antihypertensive drug that, taken regularly, can effectively control blood pressure levels in patients.
Terazosin hydrochloride tablets are orally administered for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. They can be used in combination with thiazide diuretics or other antihypertensive agents, or alone when other medications are inappropriate or ineffective. The primary focus of this medication is to reduce diastolic blood pressure. Additionally, oral administration of terazosin tablets is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
For hypertension, the initial dose of terazosin tablets is 1mg taken at bedtime and should not be exceeded to minimize the occurrence of first-dose hypotension events. After one week, the daily dose can be doubled to achieve the desired effect. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 2 to 10mg once daily. No increase in efficacy has been observed with doses exceeding 20mg, and doses above 40mg have not been studied.
For BPH, the dosage should be adjusted based on the patient's response. The initial dose is 1mg taken at bedtime and should not be exceeded to minimize the risk of first-dose hypotension. After one week or two weeks, the daily dose can be doubled to achieve the desired effect. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 5 to 10mg once daily. Significant improvement in symptoms is typically observed after two weeks of administration. To date, there is insufficient data to suggest that doses exceeding 10mg once daily would provide further symptomatic relief.
Treatment should be initiated with the initial dose and the efficacy should be evaluated after four weeks. Temporary adverse reactions may occur with each dose adjustment. If adverse reactions persist, consideration should be given to reducing the dosage.
