Why Does My Babys Body Temperature Fall Below 36 Degrees?
Measuring body temperature can be done in the mouth, armpit, and anus. Normally, rectal temperature ranges from 36.5°C to 37.5°C, oral temperature ranges from 36.2°C to 37.3°C, and axillary temperature ranges from 35.9°C to 37.2°C. A measured temperature higher than the normal range by 0.5°C or more indicates a fever. For younger babies, a temperature below 37.5°C is considered normal. So, what could be the reason for a baby's temperature being below 36°C?
1. A baby's temperature below 36°C is abnormal and may be due to measurement error or coldness caused by low external temperature. Additionally, inflammation in the baby's body can also lead to abnormal temperature regulation. It is essential to ensure warmth, add clothing, drink plenty of warm water or brown sugar water to replenish energy, promote metabolism, and maintain indoor temperature between 20-30°C. Take the temperature again after two hours, and if it remains low, consult a doctor promptly.
2. A baby's temperature below 36°C could also be due to low-grade fever, often caused by viral infections, particularly in the throat, without any systemic symptoms. There may be no apparent abnormalities in the general physical examination or respiratory symptoms, and the low fever may persist for a long time. Parents should provide appropriate treatment and care based on the baby's specific condition.
3. A baby's temperature can fluctuate significantly throughout the day, varying by 0.5 to 1°C. It may be higher after meals, exercise, bathing, crying, excessive sweating, or on hot days, especially in the afternoon. In contrast, the temperature is generally lower in the morning and during sleep. Parents should regularly monitor their baby's temperature to ensure proper care.
