Is it Normal for Babies to Pass Stool with Bubbles?
In daily life, we can judge whether our body is healthy through the color and shape of stool. Golden stool is normal stool, which is yellow in color and shaped in strip. For babies, due to their fragile intestines, daily diet and some diseases can lead to abnormal stool. It should also be noted that it is not a normal phenomenon for babies to have foamy stool, and parents need to pay attention to it.
However, it is normal for babies to have foamy stool in most cases. This may be because babies often consume starch-rich foods such as rice paste and rice flour, which may result in their stool being different from adults and having more foam. In addition, if babies consume thinner milk powder or breast milk and intake too much water, it may also lead to foamy stool. Therefore, parents usually do not need to worry about this issue.
However, foamy stool in babies may also be caused by symptoms such as indigestion and abdominal cold. If the baby has already contracted a disease such as a cold, parents must take them to the hospital for treatment. Babies need healthy breastfeeding the most during infancy. Parents should pay more attention if breastfeeding is improper and leads to abnormal stool.
Normal color of meconium: Blackish green or dark green. Many parents may not be familiar with meconium. Meconium is excreted within 24 hours of birth and is completely expelled within 3-4 days. It is sticky, odorless, and composed of shed epithelial cells, concentrated digestive juices, and amniotic fluid swallowed during the fetal period. If breastfeeding is sufficient, it will turn into normal baby stool after 2-3 days.
Normal color of stool in breastfed babies: Golden yellow. The color of stool will change after babies drink milk. A day or two after birth, when babies can eat normally and meconium has been expelled, their stool will turn brownish green, soft and granular, and then turn yellowish or golden. It is mostly uniform and pasty, with a few fecal particles or thinner, green, odorless, and acidic (pH 4.7-5.1). Bowel movements occur 2-4 times daily, usually decreasing after the introduction of complementary foods and reducing to 1-2 times per day after the first birthday.
