Why Do I Tend to Sweat Easily in Summer But Have Cold Hands and Feet in Winter?
In summer, people tend to sweat easily, while in winter, their hands and feet become cold. This is a manifestation of spleen and stomach yang deficiency, often accompanied by poor appetite and indigestion. Problems such as kidney yang deficiency or liver qi stagnation can also lead to such symptoms. Female friends who have blood deficiency and cold coagulation are also prone to sweating in summer and cold hands and feet in winter.
Long-term spleen and stomach yang deficiency can prevent yang qi from reaching the extremities of the limbs, resulting in cold hands and feet, weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, poor appetite, yellow complexion, loss of appetite, indigestion, pale tongue coating, and weak pulse.
When a person's kidney yang is insufficient, they may experience overall chills, pale complexion, soreness and weakness in the waist and legs, cold hands and feet, fear of cold, a cold sensation in the chest and lower abdomen, fatigue, shortness of breath, frequent nocturia, pale and swollen tongue, and weak and deep pulse.
People with liver qi stagnation often experience cold hands and feet due to the stagnation of liver qi within the body, which prevents the flow of qi and blood to the limbs. They may also experience depression, irritability, anger, short temper, high stress levels, poor mood, chest and rib discomfort, white tongue coating, and taut pulse.
Cold hands and feet typically have a characteristic pattern, where the hands are not colder than the elbows, and the feet are not colder than the knees.
People with blood deficiency and cold coagulation often have cold hands and feet due to weak qi and blood. They may also experience dizziness, easy fatigue, pale and sallow complexion, light-colored nails, lips, and eyelids, blurred vision, dry eyes, palpitations, dreaminess, insomnia, and forgetfulness. Female patients may have scanty and pale menstrual flow, and in severe cases, amenorrhea, numbness and pain in the limbs, and purple-tinged and mottled tongue.
