What Could Cause a Lump on the Genitals?
If there is a hard nodule on the genitals, it is necessary to be vigilant and promptly go to the hospital for formal examination. Generally speaking, this situation is likely to be caused by Peyronie's disease, which is due to fibrotic lesions in the corpus cavernosum and poses a relatively large hazard to adults. It can easily lead to bending deformities, causing pain during penile erection and resulting in failure in sexual intercourse, etc. Let's briefly understand this aspect.
The presence of hard masses on the penis may be related to Peyronie's disease. This disease refers to fibrotic lesions in the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum, leading to the appearance of hard nodules and masses. It can also cause patients to experience pain during erection, penile bending, penile shortening, and may even lead to sexual dysfunction or failure. In such cases, it is recommended that patients promptly undergo relevant examinations at the hospital, such as penile ultrasonography and penile cavernous angiography, to make a diagnosis. Once diagnosed with Peyronie's disease, it is recommended to take anti-fibrotic drugs or hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, etc., to improve clinical symptoms.
1. Local Hard Masses: Painless hard plaques appear on the penis. The hard masses are mostly located on the dorsal side of the penis. They can be as small as the size of a grain of rice or as large as to cover the entire dorsal side of the penis, appearing as round, cord-like, or plaque-like shapes. They are firm, fixed, and immobile, and mostly do not affect the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
2. Penile Bending: Most patients only experience penile bending during erection. Hard masses on the upper side of the penis can cause the penis to bend upwards, while those on the lower side can cause it to bend downwards. The bending is usually between 30°-120°.
3. Penile Shortening and Deformation: In some patients, hard masses may appear on both the upper and lower sides of the penis, causing the penis to shorten and deform.
4. Pain During Erection: Discomfort or pain is felt during penile erection. There is usually no pain in the non-erect state, and some patients may only experience pain during sexual intercourse.
5. Erectile Dysfunction
6. Difficulty in Sexual Intercourse: Due to pain during erection and bending, some patients may experience difficulty or failure in sexual intercourse due to the impact of large plaques on the blood supply of the corpus cavernosum, resulting in weak erections.
