What Does Bactroban Treat?
Mupirocin Ointment is a topical antibiotic used to treat skin infections caused by Gram-positive cocci, such as impetigo, furuncle, folliculitis, and other primary skin infections, as well as secondary skin infections such as infected eczema and superficial traumatic infections with an area not exceeding 10cm x 10cm.
Mupirocin Ointment has strong antibacterial activity against aerobic Gram-positive cocci, especially against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pyogenes, and β-hemolytic streptococcus that often cause skin infections. It is also effective against multiple drug-resistant bacteria. It also has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and there is no cross-resistance with other antibiotics. However, it has weak activity against cocci, Corynebacterium, and Propionibacterium, and does not affect the normal flora spectrum of the skin after administration. After application to the skin, the amount of transdermal absorption of Mupirocin Ointment is minimal, and it is rapidly metabolized into inactive first acid and excreted through the kidneys. In clinical observations, no abnormalities were found in blood routine, urine routine, liver function, renal function, and other tests, and no systemic toxicity was observed. Transient itching, tingling, and burning sensations are mostly caused by occlusion and the base material.
The main ingredient of Mupirocin Ointment is Mupirocin, which is suitable for the treatment of primary skin infections such as impetigo, furuncle, folliculitis, as well as secondary skin infections such as infected eczema, infected ulcers, and infected wounds. Mupirocin Ointment acts on the isoleucine-tRNA synthetase and isoleucine binding site in bacteria, inhibiting amino acid synthesis and depleting intracellular tRNA, resulting in the cessation of RNA and protein synthesis in sensitive bacteria. The affinity of Mupirocin Ointment to mammalian isoleucine-tRNA synthetase is very low, so its toxicity to humans is minimal. Mupirocin has strong antibacterial activity against aerobic Gram-positive cocci, especially against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Streptococcus pyogenes related to skin infections. It is also effective against drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
