Can I Drink Water After Having a Gastrointestinal Endoscopy?
Let's find out together!
1. Gastrointestinal endoscopy generally refers to the procedure that examines both the stomach and intestines. Generally, water is not allowed immediately after a gastrointestinal endoscopy, and you need to wait for two hours before drinking.
2. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is one of the commonly used examination methods in gastroenterology. If the patient only undergoes a gastrointestinal endoscopy without other surgeries or biopsies and does not experience significant pain, nausea, or other sensations, they can drink water normally two hours after the examination and resume a normal diet for the day. However, the diet should be light and easy to digest, with more liquid or semi-liquid foods, and avoid spicy or irritating foods.
3. Vigorous exercise is not recommended on the same day after a gastrointestinal endoscopy. Appropriate rest is needed, and normal physical activities can be gradually resumed the next day. However, to avoid vigorous exercise, patients can engage in appropriate physical activities according to their condition and recovery, such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc.
4. After a gastrointestinal endoscopy, besides paying attention to diet and exercise, patients should also monitor for abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting of blood, bloody stools, and black stools. In case of severe abdominal pain, bloating, pallor, accelerated pulse rate and heart rate, or decreased blood pressure, medical attention should be sought promptly to avoid delaying the condition.
