Can the Department of Prosthodontics Perform Tooth Restoration?
When our teeth are affected by issues such as tooth decay, it may be necessary to visit a hospital for filling treatment. However, some people may be facing tooth filling for the first time and may have many doubts and hesitate to undergo the procedure. Additionally, when they decide to get a tooth filling, they may not know which department to go to in the hospital. So, can the Dental Restoration Department perform tooth fillings? The answer is no. If you need a tooth filling, you should visit the Department of Oral Medicine or the Department of Endodontics in the hospital.
Firstly, regarding the Dental Restoration Department, it does not perform tooth fillings. If you need a tooth filling, you should go to the Department of Endodontics in a large hospital. In large hospitals or dental colleges, there are usually many departments. Among them, the Department of Endodontics is responsible for tooth fillings. Besides treating tooth decay, it also treats pulp diseases and apical periodontitis. There is also the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, which treats various oral diseases in children under 14 years old. The Department of Periodontology treats gingivitis or periodontal diseases. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery performs tooth extraction and various surgeries on the oral and maxillofacial region. The Dental Restoration Department treats tooth defects or dentition defects. The Department of Orthodontics treats dental deformities or malocclusions.
Secondly, here are six aspects to consider for post-filling care:
- Treat pain if necessary: After the filling, your teeth may feel slightly sensitive, but there is no need to rush to seek medical attention. First, observe your teeth condition and see if the discomfort resolves spontaneously. However, if the discomfort increases, it is necessary to return to the clinic promptly to investigate the cause of the pain and eliminate the discomfort.
- Brush carefully: Do not brush your teeth too vigorously. On the second day after filling with resin, avoid brushing the filled area to prevent the filling material from falling off due to contact.
- Maintain oral hygiene: Although tooth decay can be controlled after filling, neglecting oral hygiene can still lead to further decay. Therefore, oral hygiene care is crucial. Daily, it is essential to brush your teeth twice a day, rinse your mouth after meals, practice oral health care, and undergo regular oral examinations.
- Appropriate diet: Avoid eating cold or hot foods. The curing of filling materials takes time, so it is advisable not to eat for 2 hours after the filling. After 2 hours, you can consume light, semi-liquid foods such as milk, bread, porridge, and soup.
- Special protection for severe defects: For teeth with severe defects, the resistance of the tooth may be insufficient after filling with resin, and the tooth may be easily damaged during chewing. Therefore, timely protection with a dental crown is necessary to prevent tooth fractures.
- Avoid hard chewing: Although the shape of the dental restoration can be restored, the chewing function of the tooth may be compromised. Therefore, it is not advisable to chew hard foods after filling, and the filled tooth should not be used for side chewing.
