Can a Three-Year-Old Baby Eat Rambutan?
A three-year-old baby can eat rambutan. It is only advised that they should have it mashed for easier digestion. However, a baby's digestive capability decreases during diarrhea. It is therefore not suitable to feed rambutan to the baby at this time. Rambutan is a tropical fruit known for its warm nature, delicate flesh, juiciness, and sweet-sour taste. It is rich in calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin C. With its unique appearance and taste resembling lychee, it is also called hairy lychee. Its name in Malay is rambutan, which translates directly to "hairy fruit" in Chinese. Since rambutan is only distributed in Hainan, China, and mainly imported from Southeast Asia, it has a long storage and transportation cycle with poor freshness retention. When selecting rambutan, pay attention to the following points:
- Fresh rambutans are bright red with a slight tinge of green. The hairs on the shell are soft and resilient, whereas those of older fruits turn dark and hard to the touch.
- The shell of rambutan is thicker than that of lychee. Peeling it with nails can hurt your fingers and is unhygienic. The correct method is to hold it between your hands and twist it like opening a bottle cap.
- Although the flesh of rambutan is similar to lychee, its nutritional value and taste are far inferior. It is not advisable to consume large quantities at once. Consume it as soon as possible after purchase to avoid attracting insects.
- Rambutan must be stored in a cold room or refrigerator, preferably at a temperature between 0°-5°.
