What Causes Ringing in the Ears?

Ringing in the ears may be caused by cerumen impaction or secretory otitis media, and requires targeted treatment under medical guidance.

1. Cerumen Impaction: Cerumen impaction occurs when excessive cerumen secretion blocks the external auditory canal. It can be induced by oily cerumen, long-term use of hearing aids, improper earwax removal, etc. Patients generally experience symptoms such as itchy ear canals, hearing loss, a feeling of fullness in the ears, and may also experience ringing in the ears. Treatment can involve removal of the impacted cerumen using a cerumen hook under medical guidance.

2. Secretory Otitis Media: Secretory otitis media is mainly caused by Eustachian tube obstruction, bacterial or viral infections, gastroesophageal reflux, etc. Patients generally experience symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, a feeling of obstruction in the ears, and may also experience ringing in the ears. Treatment can involve oral medications such as Amoxicillin Capsules and Cefaclor Capsules under medical guidance.

During treatment, patients should pay attention to ear hygiene and avoid letting water enter the ears while bathing to prevent worsening of the condition.
