Detection of Gestational Sac via B-ultrasound during Pregnancy

Normally, a gestational sac can be detected via B-ultrasound around two months into pregnancy. Due to different physical conditions and diets among pregnant women, the time required for the gestational sac to develop varies. However, if more than two months have passed and no sign of the gestational sac is found, one should be vigilant as it may indicate an ectopic pregnancy or fetal growth arrest, requiring prompt surgical intervention at a hospital.

How many days can the gestational sac be detected?

1. If the average menstrual cycle is within 30 days, a small embryonic sac can be seen within the enlarged uterine contour at 5 weeks of pregnancy. However, there is no tissue inside the embryonic sac at this time, and it cannot be confirmed as an intrauterine early pregnancy.

2. After 6-8 weeks of pregnancy, a clear yolk sac, embryo, fetal heartbeat, and amniotic fluid level can be seen inside the gestational sac, confirming an intrauterine early pregnancy.

What causes an empty gestational sac?

1. If there is no fetal heartbeat or embryonic bud at 50 days, and no yolk sac is present, it is considered an empty gestational sac, often due to developmental defects of the gestational sac.

2. Potential causes include poor sperm and egg quality, exposure to toxic and harmful substances during early pregnancy, chromosomal issues between both parties, and immune reasons in the pregnant woman, all of which can lead to an empty gestational sac.

3. In such cases, timely abortion is recommended, and one should avoid pregnancy for six months. Before conceiving again, relevant prenatal eugenic examinations should be performed.
