Can teeth be corrected twice?
Teeth can be corrected twice. The period of orthodontic treatment is relatively long, usually requiring about two years. After that, to prevent rebound, it is necessary to wear a retainer, which is often neglected by many patients, resulting in less than ideal orthodontic effects. Orthodontic treatment should be performed in a regular hospital, and patients should follow the doctor's advice and maintain their teeth properly. Reasons for secondary orthodontic treatment:
1. Retrognathia (malocclusion)
It can be corrected during the deciduous teeth stage and the permanent teeth stage. During the deciduous teeth stage, a removable orthodontic appliance is worn to move the upper front teeth forward and relieve the malocclusion, inhibiting the protrusion of the mandible. After the replacement of deciduous and permanent teeth, the permanent dentition may still form a malocclusion, requiring the use of a fixed orthodontic appliance to adjust the occlusion relationship of the upper and lower teeth and promote the normal development of the jaw.
2. Invisible orthodontic appliances
If the desired correction goal is not achieved in the final stage of correction, the correction plan can be restarted, and the orthodontic appliance can be worn again.
3. Relapse after orthodontic treatment
If the patient fails to wear the retainer consistently after orthodontic treatment, the teeth may shift, requiring a second round of orthodontic treatment to re-adjust the position of the teeth.
Orthodontic Process
1. Consultation
It includes clinical examination before treatment, collection of diagnostic data (such as plaster models, photographs of facial appearance and intraoral teeth, X-ray examination of the face and teeth, etc.), medical record diagnosis and analysis, formulation of a treatment plan, and explanation and discussion with the patient.
2. Starting Orthodontic Treatment
After determining the treatment plan, the doctor will select the appropriate brackets based on the patient's condition and requirements, and perform corresponding adjustments, bonding, and force application. Orthodontic treatment begins from this point, and generally, follow-up visits are required approximately once a month, with the specific timing determined by the doctor based on the needs of the treatment. During each follow-up visit, necessary examinations and records during treatment will also be conducted.
3. Retention
After orthodontic treatment, a retainer is worn to maintain the corrected position of the teeth. Generally, the retainer needs to be worn full-time for the first year after treatment, and then the wearing time can be gradually reduced based on the doctor's advice. Failure to consistently wear the retainer may lead to a recurrence of malocclusion.
