Looking for Home Remedies for Tonsillitis? Try These Natural Cures!
Tonsillitis, commonly known as sore throat, is an inflammation of the tonsils. Symptoms include throat discomfort, foreign body sensation, dryness, itchiness, and irritating cough. It can be acute or chronic, with varying symptoms depending on the stage. Some patients experience recurrent episodes and cannot achieve complete recovery. Therefore, they may seek alternative remedies for treatment. Let's explore some of these remedies below.
1. 4-6 pieces of fat seaweed and excessive amount of rock sugar. Clean the fat seaweed and place it in a bowl. Add an excessive amount of rock sugar for flavoring. Pour boiling water over it, cover, and steep for about half an hour. Sip slowly. Repeat the process after 4 hours, twice a day. Typically, results can be seen within 2-3 days.
2. Equal parts of blackberry meat, licorice root, radix adenophorae, radix ophiopogonis, platycodon grandiflorum, and radix scrophulariae. Crush and mix these herbs together. Take 15 grams each time and place it in a thermal cup. Pour boiling water over it, cover, and steep for 1 hour. Drink it as tea, three times a day.
3. 12 olives and 1.5 grams of alum. Wash the olives thoroughly with cold water. Cut each olive into 4-5 longitudinal stripes using a knife. Mix the powdered alum with the olives. Consume 2 olives every 1-2 hours, chewing them slowly. Swallow the juice if there is no sputum, and spit out the olive residue to avoid hindering digestion.
4. 400 grams of dandelion, 400 grams of honeysuckle, 200 grams of mint, 100 grams of licorice, 50 grams of fat seaweed, and 30 grams of starch. Grind the mint, licorice, fat seaweed (200 grams), and dandelion (200 grams) into a fine powder, sift it, and set it aside. Boil the remaining dandelion and honeysuckle in water, combine the decoction, filter it, and dilute it to a syrup-like consistency. Mix it with the starch slurry, boil it until it becomes paste-like, and then mix it with the aforementioned prepared medicine to form a soft mass. Pass it through a 20-mesh sieve to make granules. Steep with boiling water for 10 minutes and drink the clear liquid below. Consume 10 grams each time, twice a day.
(1) Maintain oral hygiene by brushing teeth before bedtime and rinsing the mouth after meals to reduce the risk of bacterial infection in the mouth.

Strengthen physical exercise to improve physical fitness and disease resistance. Surgical intervention should be considered when conservative treatment is ineffective.
(1) Tonsillar hypertrophy that interferes with breathing or swallowing.
(2) Recurrent acute episodes occurring more than 4-5 times per year with a history of peritonsillar abscess.
(3) Long-term low-grade fever with no other identifiable causes besides tonsillitis upon comprehensive physical examination.
