Why Is There Swelling and Pain on the Left Side of My Vulva? What Should I Do?
In daily life, it is inevitable that we will be stimulated by various external factors, leading to some physical illnesses. For women, the health of the private parts is particularly important. If there is swelling and pain in the external genitalia, it is necessary to promptly identify the specific cause so that treatment can be targeted accordingly. Women should also pay attention to caring for their bodies, maintaining hygiene in the private area, wearing loose underwear, and changing underwear frequently.
1. If there is swelling and pain on the left side of the external genitalia, and the inflamed area is located slightly to the left of the posterior vaginal wall, it is often caused by an infected vestibular gland cyst. In such cases, antibiotics should be administered as soon as possible to prevent the formation of an abscess. Once an abscess forms, it can cause severe pain and require surgical drainage to achieve healing.
2. If the swelling and pain are caused by a local small abscess, it often manifests as a red and swollen area of about 1cm in size, with a possible white pustule on top. Oral antibiotics and topical ointments can be used for treatment, and symptoms usually improve within 5 days. It is recommended to avoid wearing tight pants and to refrain from spicy and acidic foods during treatment.
1. Oral medication. If a patient not only has swelling in the external genitalia but also experiences body pain or abnormal secretions, it may indicate the presence of a gynecological illness. In such cases, the patient should seek prompt medical attention to identify the underlying cause and receive oral medication to treat the illness. Once the body recovers, the swelling in the external genitalia will also resolve.
2. Local treatment. If the patient only has swelling in the external genitalia, local treatment can often effectively reduce the swelling. Antibiotic ointments can be applied directly to the inflamed area, or topical Chinese herbal baths can be used to achieve the desired effect.
3. Treating the underlying illness. In addition to gynecological illnesses, some systemic diseases can also cause swelling, itching, and other discomfort in one side of the female external genitalia. In such cases, simple topical medication to reduce swelling is not sufficient. Only by thoroughly treating the underlying illness can the abnormal symptoms in the external genitalia be resolved.
4. Improving personal hygiene habits. Some patients with swelling on one side of the external genitalia may not have any underlying illness but may be experiencing swelling due to poor personal hygiene habits or irritation from intimate products. In such cases, the patient should focus on cleaning the external genitalia, frequently changing underwear, and avoiding the use of irritating cleaning products. This will gradually reduce the swelling.
