"What Are the Treatment Options for Nasal Allergies or Rhinitis?"
Rhinitis
Rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa caused by viral, bacterial, or other pathogen infections, allergic reactions, and other factors. Its primary manifestations include runny nose, sneezing, and other symptoms. Clinically, two methods are generally adopted to alleviate rhinitis: pharmacological treatment and surgical treatment.
1. Pharmacological Treatment: Appropriate medications are selected based on different causes and symptoms to improve discomfort. Under medical supervision, antihistamines such as loratadine tablets and cetirizine hydrochloride capsules can be used; glucocorticoid medications include budesonide inhalation aerosol and fluticasone propionate nasal spray; vasoconstrictors like oxymetazoline nasal drops and ephedrine and menthol nasal drops can also be prescribed.
2. Physiotherapy: This primarily encompasses hot compresses and massage. Local hot compresses can promote blood circulation, accelerate metabolism, and facilitate recovery. Additionally, professional acupressure on acupoints like Yingxiang (LI20), Fengchi (GB20), and Hegu (LI4) can be performed by a licensed practitioner to achieve auxiliary therapeutic effects.
3. Surgical Treatment: When rhinitis recurs frequently and conservative treatments are ineffective, surgical removal of hypertrophied adenoids or polyps may be considered to alleviate obstruction. Postoperatively, antibiotics are administered to prevent infections, and regular follow-ups are necessary to assess recovery progress.
In daily life, it is essential to avoid allergens, maintain fresh and well-ventilated indoor air, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and keep warm to prevent cold-induced nasal congestion. Dietary recommendations include light, easily digestible foods, with a focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, while minimizing spicy and irritating foods.
