What Causes Neck Goiter?
Thyroid goiter in the neck may be caused by factors such as iodine deficiency, excessive mental stress, and thyroid nodules.
1. Iodine deficiency in the body mainly occurs when patients have a long-term lack of iodine, leading to insufficient secretion and synthesis of thyroid hormones. This results in high levels of thyroid hormones, excessive cell division and growth rates, causing thyroid enlargement.
2. Excessive mental stress: When the body is under prolonged mental stress and overexertion, it can easily lead to abnormal autoimmune regulation, causing autoimmune damage to thyroid cells. Abnormal increases in thyroid hormone secretion stimulate swelling in the neck.
3. Thyroid nodules are caused by hormonal synthesis dysfunction due to congenital enzyme deficiency, resulting in excessive proliferation of thyroid tissue and the formation of thyroid nodules. These nodules can compress neck tissues, leading to edema symptoms. Thyroid nodules can also be caused by conditions such as pneumonia, thyroid fibroids, and thyroid cancer.
It is recommended that patients with thyroid swelling promptly visit the hospital to identify the cause and cooperate with their doctors for treatment.
