Why Does a 65-Year-Old Woman Often Have Night Sweats?
The reasons for frequent night sweats in 65-year-old women include spontaneous sweating due to qi deficiency, night sweats due to yin deficiency, and虚汗 (night sweats) due to yang deficiency, with corresponding drug treatment based on different causes.
1. A 65-year-old woman is extremely prone to spontaneous sweating due to qi deficiency, as Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that qi has the function of reinforcing the exterior and stopping sweating. Therefore, if a woman experiences qi deficiency, it weakens the body's ability to retain sweat, causing sweat to be excreted through the pores and forming spontaneous sweating. Symptoms also include pale complexion, fatigue, and weakness. Generally, drugs that tonify qi and nourish blood are prescribed to improve qi deficiency, with commonly used herbs including astragalus, goji berry, ginseng, and Chinese yam.
2. A 65-year-old woman may experience night sweats due to yin deficiency and excessive internal heat, also manifesting as虚汗 (night sweats). Yin deficiency leads to excessive internal heat, forcing body fluids to be excreted as sweat. Treatment focuses on nourishing yin and reducing heat, with medications such as Liuwei Dihuang Pill, Qiju Dihuang Pill, and Baihe Gujin Pill.
3. Yang deficiency can also cause虚汗 (night sweats) in 65-year-old women. Since yang qi reinforces the exterior of the body, yang deficiency can also lead to sweating. Treatments include Shenling Baishu Pill, Yougui Pill, and Guifu Dihuang Pill.
