"What Should I Do About Kidney Hydronephrosis? Is It Serious?"
Assessment of the Severity of Hydronephrosis
The severity of hydronephrosis is determined based on specific circumstances. Mild hydronephrosis caused by physiological factors is generally not severe, whereas severe hydronephrosis resulting from pathological causes is considered more severe.
Non-Severe Cases
1. Mild: If the patient exhibits mild hydronephrosis due to physiological factors such as excessive water intake or prolonged urine retention without evident discomfort, this is typically a normal physiological phenomenon requiring no specific treatment or undue concern.
Severe Cases
2. Severe: Hydronephrosis caused by renal diseases, ureteral obstruction, or other pathological reasons can potentially damage the kidneys, leading to severe hydronephrosis, which is relatively more severe.
3. Acute Glomerulonephritis: A common renal disease, acute glomerulonephritis is primarily caused by an immune response following streptococcal infection. Clinically, it manifests as hematuria, proteinuria, and other symptoms. Patients with this disease may be prescribed antibiotics like sodium penicillin G or ceftriaxone for anti-infective treatment in the early stages. Surgical intervention may also be considered when necessary.
4. Urinary Calculi: Urinary calculi refer to stones that form within the urinary system. Their exact etiology remains unclear but may be associated with metabolic abnormalities, lifestyle factors, and other variables. Clinically, they can cause symptoms like lumbar and abdominal pain, dysuria, and hematuria. Small stones may be treated with medication like stone-expelling granules or Shenshitong granules to promote their expulsion. Larger stones, however, may require extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) or other surgical procedures.
Additionally, patients are advised to rest adequately, avoid overexertion and staying up late, maintain a balanced diet rich in light and easily digestible foods like millet porridge and pumpkin porridge, and promptly seek medical attention upon experiencing any discomfort to prevent disease progression.
