What Types of Wrinkles Exist?
Types of Wrinkles and Their Causes
There are numerous types of wrinkles, predominantly categorized into crow's feet, glabellar lines, forehead lines, nasolabial folds, perioral lines, and neck lines.
Crow's Feet
Crow's feet, resembling the tail of a fish, primarily manifest around the eyes, hence their name. They are fine lines caused by decreased neuroendocrine function, reduced protein synthesis, and altered or lost activity of fibrocytes in the dermis. Collagen fibers also become fragmented, leading to diminished skin elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes. Additional factors include sun exposure, dryness, cold temperatures, excessively hot water during facial cleansing, expressive facial movements, and smoking.
Glabellar Lines
Glabellar lines are expression lines typically located between the eyebrows. As individuals age, facial wrinkles deepen, and more pronounced folds form between the eyebrows, adopting a "川" shape, also known as a frown line. These lines can impart a constantly worried or unhappy appearance.
Forehead Lines
Forehead lines refer to wrinkles situated on the forehead region. Excessive facial expressions, particularly frequent eyebrow raising, can impair the forehead muscles' recovery ability and gradually decrease the elasticity of the subcutaneous fibrous tissue, resulting in the formation of forehead lines. Other contributing factors include excessive water loss, malnutrition, and intense sun exposure.
Neck Lines
The skin on the neck is relatively fragile yet abundant to ensure normal rotation. This characteristic makes the neck highly susceptible to wrinkles, which often reveal one's age. Neck wrinkles, once developed, are challenging to remove, and surgical methods often offer the most effective and rapid improvement.
