Can rice with bugs still be eaten?

Small crawling insects that grow in rice are usually edible, while flying insects that grow larger are not. Generally, there are two main types of insects that infest rice. One is the ordinary small crawling insect that survives in the rice. If this type of insect appears, the rice is generally not greatly damaged, and it is sufficient to wash out the small insects from the rice. The other type is a flying insect. If rice produces this type of small flying insect, it should not be consumed further, because although this type of insect is not harmful to humans, it generally feeds on the core of the rice, rendering the rice of little nutritional value.

1. Low-temperature Storage: If you want to achieve better taste in the cooked rice, it is best to store the rice in a low-temperature environment. If there is sufficient space in the fridge, storing it in the fridge is a very good choice. However, there is one point to note about this storage method: once the rice is stored in the fridge, it should not be taken out for storage at room temperature again. This is because it will create a large temperature difference, and the surface of the rice will absorb a lot of moisture, easily leading to mold growth.

2. Placing Orange Peels in the Rice Bag: In summer, when the weather changes greatly, rice is most susceptible to deterioration and infestation. At the beginning of summer, you can sift the rice and dry all the rice chaff in the sun. Then, you can place some dried orange peels in a ventilated and dry place for storage, which can effectively prevent rice from being infested by insects.

3. Storing in Plastic Bottles: You can clean and dry large plastic bottles at home and keep them for future use. When needed, they can be used to store rice. It is important to note that when filling the bottles with rice, both the rice and the bottle must be dry. After filling the bottle with rice, tighten the cap securely. Because plastic bottles have good sealing properties, they can prevent rice from molding and being infested by insects.

4. Using Liquor to Prevent Insect Infestation: You can find a small unused bottle at home, pour an appropriate amount of liquor into it, and place it among the unpacked rice. When doing this, make sure to leave the bottle cap open so that the ethanol gas can effectively prevent rice from molding and being infested by insects.
