"Experiencing Difficulty Breathing, Nausea, and Symptoms of Nasal and Throat Inflammation: Could This Be Due to Rhinitis and Pharyngitis?"
Symptoms of Respiratory Distress and Nausea in Patients with Rhinitis and Pharyngitis
Patients with rhinitis and pharyngitis who experience respiratory distress and nausea may be suffering from dietary irritation, inflammatory stimulation, or potentially the presence of tumors in the nasopharynx. It is advised that patients promptly consult an otolaryngologist and follow medical advice for pharmacological and surgical treatments as necessary.
1. Dietary Irritation
Consumption of spicy or fatty foods that irritate the throat can trigger symptoms of respiratory distress and nausea in patients with rhinitis and pharyngitis. Generally, no special treatment is required in such cases; instead, it is recommended to maintain a bland diet, limit spicy foods, and increase water intake.
2. Inflammatory Stimulation
Respiratory distress and nausea in rhinitis and pharyngitis patients can be caused by inflammatory processes, such as acute rhinitis or acute pharyngitis. Mucosal congestion and swelling, along with increased local secretions, can narrow the nasopharyngeal cavity, leading to respiratory distress. Concurrently, inflammation stimulates congestion and swelling of the throat mucosa, causing a sensation of a foreign body and, thus, nausea. Treatment in these cases involves medication prescribed by a doctor, commonly including rhinitis tablets and nasal sprays like xylometazoline hydrochloride.
3. Rhinitis
Respiratory distress and nausea in rhinitis patients may also be due to the development of sinusitis. Severe cases may manifest as nasal obstruction and purulent nasal discharge. During respiration, air flow through the nasopharyngeal cavity can irritate the nasopharynx, resulting in respiratory distress and nausea. Treatment involves medications like amoxicillin clavulanate potassium tablets and eucalyptus and cypress enteric-coated soft capsules, as prescribed by a doctor.
4. Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis patients experiencing respiratory distress and nausea may have throat tumors. These tumors can cause congestion, swelling, and dilation of the throat mucosa, which, when stimulated by air flow during respiration, can lead to respiratory distress and nausea. Prompt laryngoscopy is advised, and tumors, if detected, should be surgically removed, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy as necessary.
