How to Naturally Induce Labor?
Natural Ways to Induce Labor
When the pregnancy has reached the expected date of delivery, yet there are no signs of the baby's arrival, pregnant mothers tend to feel particularly anxious and worried. After the expected date, they may consider inducing labor. Compared to medical induction, pregnant mothers prefer natural methods to minimize the harm to the baby and themselves. There are several natural ways to induce labor, including nipple stimulation, slow walking and squatting, and showering. These methods can be used when the pregnancy reaches 41 weeks. Here's how to naturally induce labor quickly and effectively:
1. Nipple Stimulation
This is a natural method of inducing labor. When the nipples and areolas are stimulated, the signals are transmitted to the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. This stimulates the release of endogenous estrogen from the posterior pituitary gland, which then acts on the target organ - the uterus, inducing or strengthening uterine contractions. A common method is to massage the breasts.
2. Showering to Induce Labor
For this method, pregnant women should shower with warm water. During the shower, repeatedly push out the protruding abdomen from the upper part of the stomach while gently stroking the abdomen with the palm of your hand. It's also important to talk to the baby to prevent it from being startled.
3. Walking and Slow Squatting to Induce Labor
This is another natural method. The main approach is to walk briskly for 30 minutes every day in a garden or outdoor area with fresh air. Before going to bed every night, perform slow squatting exercises, with five squats as a set. This method can be effective after two or three days of consistent practice.
When Should Labor Be Induced?
A pregnancy that exceeds 42 weeks is considered postdate, which can be detrimental to the health of both the mother and the baby, increasing the risk of difficult labor and fetal hypoxia. Therefore, even if the baby has not been born by the expected date, regular prenatal check-ups are still necessary. The doctor will determine the appropriate time for labor induction based on fetal movement, fetal heart monitoring, ultrasound, and amniotic fluid volume. It is best not to exceed 42 weeks. You can use methods such as exercise, dieting, or nipple stimulation at 39 weeks to prevent a delayed delivery. However, it is recommended to seek medical attention for labor induction when the pregnancy reaches 41 weeks.
