What Causes Redness in the White Part of the Eye?
1. Eye inflammation: Eye congestion caused by inflammation can be either infectious or non-infectious. Infectious inflammation may be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc., while non-infectious inflammation is usually due to allergies.
2. Eye diseases: Common diseases include active pterygium and malignant conjunctival and corneal tumors. Pterygium or tumors can be surgically removed.
3. Eye compression: Elevated orbital and intraocular pressure can cause circulatory disorders and local congestion. Common examples include acute angle-closure glaucoma and orbital space-occupying lesions. Treatment can be done with medication or surgery.
4. Trauma: Common eye injuries and foreign bodies. In such cases, a detailed examination should be performed at the hospital to remove foreign bodies and perform symptomatic treatments such as suturing.
5. Chronic irritation: Chronic irritation-induced eye congestion can lead to fatigue, adverse reactions such as dust, smoke, and heat. When using the eyes, it is important to rest, avoid dusty and windy environments, and wear protective goggles to reduce irritation.
