What are the common massage techniques for pregnant mothers?
The mood of pregnancy is joyful, but various physical and psychological discomforts often plague women during gestation. Massage therapy can alleviate these discomforts to a certain extent. When adopting massage therapy, various massage techniques are mainly used to massage different acupuncture points to achieve the therapeutic effect.
(1) The Cui Method
Place the part of the back of the hand near the little finger side on the area that needs massage, with the fingers in a natural semi-bent position, the elbow joint slightly bent, and the wrist joint performing continuous reciprocating rotational movements. The movements should be uniform and coordinated, and friction or bouncing should be avoided as much as possible. The Cui method has a broader contact area and applies greater pressure, making it suitable for areas with thicker muscles such as the shoulders, back, waist, hips, and limbs.
(2) The Kneading Method
Use the fingertips or palm to perform uniform and gentle kneading movements on the area that requires massage treatment. When kneading with the palm, keep the palm horizontal, fingers naturally spread, and fingertips slightly apart, which is suitable for areas with larger muscle areas such as the waist and back. When kneading with fingers, relax the finger joints, use the wrist joint to drive the forearm, and let the attached area move in a circular motion, which is suitable for soft tissue injuries in the neck, shoulders, and limbs.
(3) The Finger Pressing Method
Use the thumb tip or knuckle to press on specific areas that require massage. Pressing on acupuncture points is called the acupressure method. When pressing, keep the hand in a fist-like shape with the thumb closely attached to the outer side of the index finger to avoid finger joint sprains due to excessive force. Gradually increase the force and apply tremors to the pressed area. This technique has a wide range of applications and can be used for massage of various parts of the body and acupuncture points.
