Changpu Yujin Decoction

Changpu Yujin Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription. Its components include Acorus calamus, Gardenia jasminoides, fresh bamboo leaves, Cortex Moutan, Curcuma aromatica, Forsythia suspensa, Medulla Junci, Akebia quinata, Bamboo juice, and Yushu Dan. It has the effects of clearing heat in the nutritive level and eliminating phlegm. Changpu Yujin Decoction can be decocted in water. Besides the above-mentioned prescription components, there is another prescription without Medulla Junci and Akebia quinata but with Chrysanthemum morifolium, Fructus Arctii, Talcum, and Ginger Juice. In the prescription, Acorus calamus can open orifices and nourish the heart, calming the spirit; Cortex Moutan and Forsythia suspensa can purge the latent heat in the blood and clear the Jue Yin and Shao Yin meridians; Curcuma aromatica tastes bitter and pungent with cold property, which can clear the heart, nourish the blood, promote qi circulation, and alleviate depression; Bamboo leaves have a pungent, mild, sweet, and cold taste, which can cool the heart, soothe the spleen, and eliminate the heat in the upper jiao; Akebia quinata and Bamboo juice can clear heat and purge fire, as well as nourish yin and generate body fluid and blood. When used together, the whole prescription has the effects of clearing heat in the nutritive level, eliminating phlegm, and nourishing the lung with coolness. It can be used to treat conditions such as latent pathogenic wind-warm syndrome, temporary relief of fever and body coolness after inducing sweating with pungent-cool herbs, while the heat in the chest and abdomen remains unresolved, followed by spontaneous sweating with burning sensation, irritability and insomnia, alternating consciousness, rapid pulse and crimson tongue, nocturnal delirium, cold limbs with凹陷 pulse, and milder symptoms. However, the adverse reactions and contraindications of Changpu Yujin Decoction are not yet clear. But some of the Chinese herbs in it have certain contraindications. For example, Bamboo juice is cold in nature, so it is contraindicated for those with cold cough and spleen deficiency with loose stools; Cortex Moutan can promote blood circulation, so it is contraindicated for those with blood deficiency, cold syndromes, and pregnant women.
