Hyperkalemia patients with distressing arrhythmias can be treated with sodium lactate solution, which can also regulate metabolic acidosis. The use of this drug needs to be prescribed and used by a doctor, and cannot be used without medical advice. It is basically a colorless and slightly viscous liquid. If symptoms such as accelerated heart rate and rapid blood pressure elevation are observed after use, the drug should be stopped immediately.

1. Role of Sodium Lactate Solution

Sodium lactate solution plays a significant role in the treatment of metabolic acidosis, as a buffering agent in peritoneal dialysis fluid, and in hyperkalemia patients with severe arrhythmias and widened QRS waves.

2. Adverse Effects of Sodium Lactate Solution

Patients with hypocalcemia (such as uremia) may experience symptoms such as numbness, pain, twitching, and difficulty breathing after correcting acidosis, which is caused by a decrease in serum calcium ion concentration. Other adverse effects may include accelerated heart rate, chest tightness, symptoms of pulmonary edema and heart failure such as shortness of breath, elevated blood pressure, weight gain, edema, alkalosis when overdose occurs, decreased blood potassium concentration, and sometimes manifestations of hypokalemia.

3. Usage of Sodium Lactate Solution

This drug is used for the preparation of sodium lactate injection and should not be used for direct injection into the human body. If patients experience severe symptoms such as elevated blood pressure, accelerated heart rate, or pulmonary edema after administration, the drug should be stopped immediately.
