How to Treat Cracked Skin on Feet?
Cracked feet require targeted treatment based on the underlying causes, such as eczema and fungal infection. For eczema, topical moisturizers are generally prescribed. In case of fungal infection, it is important to maintain hygiene and dryness of the feet, while also adhering to topical medication use. Oral antifungal drugs may be necessary if topical treatment is ineffective.
1. Eczema can cause thickening and cracking of the skin on the feet, accompanied by itching. Topical moisturizers such as urea ointment, heparin sodium ointment, and vitamin E cream can be used for local protection. Avoid excessive soaking in hot water. In severe cases, corticosteroid creams may also be prescribed.
2. Fungal infection, commonly known as athlete's foot, requires maintaining dryness of the affected area. Topical antifungal creams such as naftifine, terbinafine, and bifonazole should be used consistently for a prolonged period. Oral antifungal drugs may be prescribed for patients who do not respond well to topical treatment.
3. Additionally, a diverse diet including fresh fruits and vegetables can help supplement vitamins A and E, which are beneficial for skin health. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is also essential.
