Hard and Painful Lumps in Pimples May Indicate Boils, Acne, or Sebaceous Cysts, Among Others
Patients are advised to select appropriate treatment plans based on different causes under the guidance of a physician. Detailed analyses are as follows:
1. Boils: Mainly manifested as conical protrusions accompanied by small, red, swollen, and painful nodules. They are usually caused by skin follicle infections with Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, and other pathogenic bacteria. Drug treatment can be selected as prescribed by a physician.
2. Acne: Mainly manifested as comedones, papules, pustules, and, in severe cases, nodules and cysts, which appear as hard and painful lumps. They are usually caused by excessive sebaceous gland secretion and blocked hair follicles. External preparations can be applied as prescribed by a physician, along with oral medication.
3. Sebaceous Cysts: After the sebaceous gland duct is blocked, its contents accumulate to form a round lump accompanied by pain. Upon squeezing, a powdery substance may overflow. Surgical removal is recommended under the operation of a professional physician.
Dermoid cysts and epidermal inclusion cysts may also present with the above symptoms. Patients are advised to undergo targeted treatment after identifying the cause.
